Investment theme: Growing social networks
Purpose:
to contribute towards employing an activity coordinator, instructor fees, purchasing healthy food for cooking workshops, room hire and publicity
Year of grant: 2016
Amount awarded: £1,560
Location: Isle of Islay
Full description
The grant will contribute towards the cost of 5 instructors for 10 weeks (£500), ingredients (£200), room hire (£280), advertising (£180), parenting workshop tutor (£160) and activity coordinator (£480). This will allow the Centre to run a programme of activities for 5 months that will appeal to local women and help in establishing a formal women’s group. The activities will include healthy cooking, aquafit, gym sessions and parenting classes. Consultation has been done in the local area, and a need has been demonstrated. They estimate that 105 women will benefit from these activities. At the end of the programme, it is hoped that some of the women may like to take on further responsibility in the coordination of activities, in the hope that this will help them to appeal to employers and be able to return to the jobs market
