Investment theme: Moving on from abuse
Purpose:
To contribute towards a sessional worker to offer support sessions to vulnerable women in Dundee.
Amount awarded: £2000
Location: DUNDEE
Full description
This application is towards the cost of a sessional worker to organise and co-ordinate awareness, outreach and support sessions targeting vulnerable women on the street of Dundee at risk of sexual exploitation because of drug and/or alcohol abuse. Through other projects and a series of research consultations, Izzy’s Promise has discovered a significant number of (mainly young) women, involved in the sex industry. Many of these women and girls are drug users or dependent on alcohol, whilst some are students who are supplementing their income. Many are care leavers or runaways but all are vulnerable to exploitation or organised abuse. The worker and volunteers would engage with these women on the streets offering support and advice as well as mapping available support services and developing awareness programmes to train volunteers and carers on how best to identify and support such victims in future. The project hopes to engage with at least 10 women to help them off the streets.
