Purpose:
to contribute towards running information events for BME communities.
Amount awarded: £2000
Location: Aberdeen
Full description
The grant will contribute towards the cost of holding 6 youth events and 6 community events in black and minority ethnic (BME) communities around Aberdeenshire between November 2015 and November 2016. Consultation with women from BME groups about barriers they face in reaching out for support have shown that women who were affected by abuse in their communities, did not ask for help or report incidents to the police due to stigma and cultural differences. The aim is to attract 7 women to each event by breaking down barriers that BME communities face in accessing rape and abuse support services. The events will be marketed in such a manner that they will be seen as informal coffee mornings and gatherings which offer support and advice. They will be run by the equalities officer who has worked in BME communities before.
