Investment theme: Building skills and confidence
To provided a specifically designed course to meet the needs of the women in the refuge and to provide a crèche for the children to enable the women to attend.
Amount awarded: £5000
Location: Scottish Borders
Twenty four weeks of training, delivered in partnership with Borders College for up to six women who have experienced or are at risk of experiencing domestic abuse. The request also covers the cost of providing a crèche. The training will take place in Jedburgh, beginning in April 2012, and will offer three eight week training blocks [each workshop will last for two hours]. Each block will be themed and will address participant needs. Course content may include; confidence building, CV writing, basic IT skills etc. The group ran an eight week pilot in 2011 that they have evaluated. They recognise that this work can help to move women on and support them to re-engage with education and training. The activity is sustainable if grant support can be secured.
