Shona shares her top tips for completing grant applications

Hi, I am Shona, the Development Manager for the Women’s Fund. I want to fund a huge amount of diverse groups. However in order to do this, project groups have to send in great, inspiring grant applications! We want to fund you, so tell us what you need and why!!! Here are some of my top tips when filling out your application form…

  1. DO give yourself plenty of time – we cannot emphasise this enough; it helps with tips 2 – 14!
  2. DO your research, do your homework, be prepared
  3. DO read the guidelines and eligibility criteria
  4. Read them again
  5. Read them once more – for luck!
  6. Take notes
  7. DO contact us if you can’t find the answer you need in our guidelines or eligibility criteria
  8. DO plan your answers – look through the list of questions first. It may be helpful to take notes in a separate document you could then copy and paste into the online application form.
  9. DO avoid jargon
  10. DO tell us what you NEED
  11. DO gather all the accompanying documents together in advance (they may be helpful to refer to when answering some of the questions).
  12. DO double and triple check you have all the correct documents when you submit; if you don’t have the correct documents or miss any out your application will not be assessed
  13. DO check the website for updates before submitting application
  14. DO ask someone to have a read of your application before submitting
  15. DO look online for other top tips
  16. DON’T forget we receive a huge volume of applications and enquiries so are unable to comment on individual applications
  17. DON’T wait until the last moment to submit your application; power cuts and crashing computers do (and have) happened

Good luck, Shona x
