The grant will cover the staff costs (£5609) of delivering a craft support group to 50 women supported in their refuges once a week for 40 weeks. It can be very boring and isolating to be in a refuge as many women will have been systematically cut off from their friends and families by their abuser. They may have been expected to stay at home with no money and so have lost the confidence to socialise. Meeting in a group, based around craft activities gives the women a chance to make new friends and for them to socialise with other women and understand that they are not unique in experiencing abuse. The forum encourages women to open up whilst participating in the crafts is therapeutic. They anticipate that 50 women will benefit.
