The grant is being applied for to run two six-week terms of free music classes in guitar, bass, vocals and drums in a supportive learning environment, for women (including trans women), of all ages over 18, regardless of ability, with no previous experience required. Classes will be at The Biscuit Factory in Leith, Edinburgh, in March/April and September/October 2023. Each participant then has the opportunity to form a band and perform at our twice-yearly showcase events.in front of an audience of family and friends. The grant will also contribute toward the salary of a part time freelance administrative assistant for a year, who supports the volunteer committee. All tutors at GRSE are unpaid volunteers, but we offer a modest travel allowance for those who need it. If we also receive enough from participant and showcase donations, we will also run a series of stand-alone workshops in sound engineering, song writing, guitar and amp tech, DIY event management, assertiveness and zine production, subject to demand.
