Project Details
The grant will contribute to the costs of an artistic director (£1650), administrator (£600), workshop facilitators (£5300); materials (£1450); travel (£850); refreshments (£650); marketing (£1300) and documentation (£1300) to bring 5 groups of women from across Glasgow together with professional artists to create an exhibition marking the centenary of the 1918 Representation of the People Act. Each group will attend six workshops to celebrate letter writing as a means of protest. The groups will review letters that track the progress of women?s rights through history including the Suffragette movement, and write their own letters reflecting current issues affecting women and their communities. These will be used to create visual art work and both will be displayed at a Glasgow Gallery. An average of 15 women per groups will benefit.
