Full description
The grant will contribute to the sessional salary costs of a counselling/like skills coach. The person will work one day per week, delivering 4/5 individual support sessions per day and be paid at a rate of £125 per day over a 10 month period (£5,000). This will allow Bright Light Counselling to ring fence the time of one of their counsellors for one day per week to respond to the needs of women who are fleeing domestic violence and are recovering from an abusive relationship. This work is part of a Family Therapy Service provided by Bright Light. Initially, they will provide one to one support to vulnerable women to help them discuss and process their experiences, understand that it was not their fault and begin the journey to recovery. As part of this process, women can identify other people in their network, such as their children, to join the therapy sessions. This may help families to talk about the abuse for the first time and support each other?s recovery and understanding of what has happened. Children may be offered individual counselling, as part of this process, but this work will be funded by a different source. The service will be tailored to the needs of individual woman and each will be offered an average of 4-6 counselling sessions. They estimated that a total of 400 women will benefit directly from this service, plus their children. The service will be delivered remotely until lockdown restrictions ease.
