Full description
The grant will contribute towards staff costs (£3,780); activity and materials (£500); travel costs (£1,200); venue costs (£900); refreshments (£600); and administration (£888). This will enable the group to run a series of health and wellbeing workshops to vulnerable women who have drug and alcohol misuse issues and/or have involvement with the criminal justice system. The activities will include mindfulness and yoga, tips on how to manage stress and anxiety, harm reduction, tolerance, parenting, nutrition and will focus on creating positive futures. The activities will run weekly from St Mary?s Episcopal Church in Motherwell Glasgow, where Circle have an established partnership. The church is also the base for Hamilton?s Child Contact Centre and therefore, the group anticipate they will receive a high level of interest in the health and wellbeing workshops. Women will be able to self-refer and the group will also be able to take referrals from their wider organisational work, as well as external agencies. The group highlighted that often the women can have feelings of anxiety and guilt due to addiction and/or criminal history and the time that has been taken away from their children due to this. Through group work women in a non-judgemental environment they will be able to share their life experiences and current challenges and create a new supportive network of friends, whilst gaining new skills to enhance their coping mechanisms and overall health and wellbeing.
