Full description
Our project will provide 50 x weekly sessions in sewing and embroidery. Each session is for 3 hour session pw and will attract around 8 participants, all female, 35-70 years old. This will allow our participants to establish their own small social enterprise business, allowing them to develop a sense of achievement and self worth.
Just Bee Productions currently facilitates a women?s group three times per week. It is supported by Foundation Scotland Women?s Fund until March 2024.
The women's group is a safe place for a group of marginalised women to come along for support and to engage in our services. The women enjoy creative crafts, they enjoy sewing items such as tote bags and pencil cases. In addition to this we have started up a new sewing enterprise project, running once a week. The group is run by a core staff member and our volunteer who has professional expertise in product design. This is a small, dedicated group, which gives individuals the space to focus. The group are learning to sew different types of handbags, homeware and clothing items. Learning new skills in a community setting helps build the participants confidence.
Our project will also allow the group to partake in occasional master classes and trips. The group also allows individuals to socialise, meet new people and make friends. Our participants aim is to be able to sell the items they?ve created in order to put the profits back into self-sustaining the group, helping fund our wider women's activities and services. Our products are made using off-cut leftover materials from local businesses, this means our products are sustainable. We will be selling the items on etsy, and at local stalls and events.
