The grant will contribute towards funding a Senior Youth Worker to manage a new, Monday evening service for 10-15 young women with mild to moderate learning disabilities who are transitioning from leaving school and moving into training for employment. This will equate to a four hour shift x 52 weeks @ £14.30 per hour, totalling £2,975. The young women will be supported to work at their own pace towards accredited awards including Dynamic Youth, Saltire (promoting volunteering) and Tenancy Awards, along with arts and crafts, trips and outdoor activities etc. Referrals will come from Midlothian Council Transitions Social Work team, who have identified a gap in provision for these young women who do not have complex needs but vulnerabilities that exclude them from the mainstream.
