The grant would pay for staff time (£10,000) to continue the development of a mobile phone application (the COUNTER app) designed to report incidents of stalking which could replace manual, paper-based recording. The grant would fund staff time for development and tech build of the alpha version of the app; usability lab testing; piloting; tech build of the beta version; launch; roll-out and evaluation. There is currently no secure, easy to use, reliable way for victims to log incidents of stalking. The app is being developed in partnership with Rape Crisis Scotland and when finished could be used by up to 2,500 women (based on Rape Crisis estimates of the number of women being stalked in Scotland each year).
