Full description
The grant would contribute towards the cost of salaries (£4,812), volunteer costs (£368) and operational costs of voyages (£2,980). This would allow the organisation to deliver 2 employability focused residential voyages targeted at and designed for young women aged 14-25. The funding will also make these voyages accessible to people and groups who wouldn?t be able to pay. In addition to the organisational aims highlighted above, this project would aim to demonstrate that sailing is something that young women and girls can get involved in and that there are realistic opportunities for women to pursue a career in sailing. Young people will have the opportunity to work towards SVQ qualification units related to communication, listening and speaking, and following the voyage they will have the opportunity to volunteer and work towards a Skipper qualification. The voyages will take place between March and November, and typically voyages depart from Greenock and dock in Oban North Pier. It is anticipated that 24 participants and 12 volunteers would benefit from this project.
