Full description
Outside the Box is seeking funding for an innovative project which will establish digital conversations between a group of Syrian women resettled in Clydebank and elderly residents of a private care home in the Western Isles. The project is designed to develop and test a new way for women to practice speaking English with native English speakers. OTB has worked with the Syrian women for over two years as part of the Moments of Freedom project.
The total cost of the project is £10,090. An application has been made to the Tudor Trust for £5,248 to cover the cost of employing an OTB worker for 1 day per week for 32 weeks (£164 x 32 weeks)
The WFS panel raised some important questions about the budget. The following answers were given by OTB:
? In the application OTB is seeking £5,000 from the Women?s Fund for Scotland yet agreed that they should have requested £4,842 as this is the balance remaining after deducting the amount requested from the Tudor Trust. The Care Home is unable to contribute financially but will help the elderly residents participate in the sessions.
The £4,842 requested represents:
? £2,000 for Equipment for participants ? including tablets for the Syrian women, data and Zoom licences.
? £200 for Resources & Publications ? design and layout.
? £960 - cost of Care Staff (2 workers x 3 hours per week for 32 weeks ? 2 x £15 x 32) This is a contribution towards the cost of two Care Home staff helping to facilitate the sessions. It does not reflect their full hourly rate. The project required extra staff support to be delivered. Without this contribution the Care Home would be unable to afford to provide the additional staff hours to be involved in the project.
? £1,682 towards Management and Office Costs ? this is based on a standard percentage calculation which the OTB worker thought was normally 10%. The figure requested works out as 20% of the total project costs.
