Investment theme: Moving on from violence
to contribute towards running a specialised "at risk" service for women.
Amount awarded: £2000
The grant will contribute to the cost of employing a counsellor for 3 hours per week to help to develop a new counselling support service for women who have low self esteem, relationship difficulties and who may be at risk of domestic violence or abuse. This will be a new day time service. Referrals will come for health services and other agencies and women can self refer. The focus will be on early intervention and security, in terms of helping women to identify the risks in their lives and to take appropriate action. It is anticipated that 30 women will benefit from this support in the coming year. Most of the support will be provided by voluntary counsellors but the organisation would also like to employ a qualified counsellor to respond, in a flexible way, to crisis or emergency situations.
