Full description
We provide creative workshops for women from the asylum seeker and refugee community. We teach machine and hand sewing , creating practical items from upcycled donated textiles and fabrics. We complete an item at each session. We practice conversational English. We share a hot lunch together, and reimburse travel expenses. The workshops are facilitated by our sessional staff and supported by volunteers we mentor from within the group.
Although we are an upcycling zero waste organisation, we still need to buy haberdashery such as zips, stuffing, cushion inserts, ribbons, buttons, beads, pins, toggles, wool, cord, interfacing, keyrings, thread, scissors, and sewing machine parts. We also run additional creative workshops with the group, teaching painting onto glass or canvas, and these supplies cannot be sourced second hand. We also need some office supplies in order to run the group - paper, ink and labels.
