The grant would contribute towards staff costs (£7,700); training (£1,100); volunteer expenses (£700) and advertising (£500) to run “Go, Sister”, a structured volunteer support programme that will be targeted at unemployed or underemployed migrant women in Govanhill. The training programme would run for 12 months and be repeated 3 times each year during the grant period. They have been working with the Scottish Refugee Council and Glasgow Life to prepare the infrastructure for volunteer support and will soon have all the tools to engage volunteers in diverse roles eg kitchen event assistant; event production assistant; admin support and digital marketing assistant. They expect attendance of 40 interested women at initial taster sessions, expressions of interest from 20 and progress into volunteering from 15 women per cohort.
