Tips for a successful application

  1. Give Yourself Plenty of Time: Start early. This will make the rest of the process much smoother!
  2. Do Your Research: Be thorough. Know the guidelines and eligibility criteria inside and out.
  3. Read the Guidelines: Read them carefully, then read them again. One more time for good measure. Take notes if needed.
  4. Contact Us if You Have Questions: If the guidelines or criteria aren’t clear, contact us for clarification.
  5. Plan Your Answers: Review all the questions before you start. It might help to draft your responses in a separate document, then copy and paste them into the online form.
  6. Avoid Jargon: Use clear and simple language to convey your ideas.
  7. Use Our Language: Talk specifically about “women and girls”—not just “people.” We need to know you’re working with, and for, women and girls.
  8. Be Specific About Why You’re Applying: Clearly explain why you are applying for the grant. What is the need, why do you want it, and what exactly will you do with it?
  9. Highlight Previous Grants: If you or your grant partner have received a grant from us before, make sure to mention this. Describe what was achieved with the previous funding to show the impact and success of prior grants.
  10. Use Bullet Points: Don’t be afraid to use bullet points. They help keep your answers clear, concise, and easy to read.
  11. Link to Our Investment Themes: State how your project aligns with our investment themes. This shows that your application fits within our funding priorities.
  12. Gather Your Documents: Collect all necessary documents ahead of time. You may need them when answering certain questions.
  13. Double-Check Your Submission: Before submitting, ensure you have included all the required documents. Missing or incorrect documents will prevent your application from being assessed.
  14. Check for Updates: Visit our website for any updates before you submit your application.
  15. Get a Second Opinion: Ask someone to review your application for clarity and completeness.
