Full description
The grant would fund the cost of running two, 8-week therapeutic training courses for deaf women experiencing anxiety, depression or stress-related difficulties. Costs are for 2 BSL interpreters (£2,752); mobile crèche (£1,114.88); room hire and refreshments (£640). Deaf people are twice as likely to experience mental health issues eg depression and anxiety, than hearing people (Sick of It Report, SignHealth 2014). This is exacerbated by Deaf people having poorer access to health services caused by lack of information and effective communication in consultations because of a lack of interpreters and/or information provided in BSL. These courses would enable up to 30 women to manage stress more effectively, reduce self-harm and suicide ideation and to support them to recognise and develop their personal strengths and emotional resilience.
