Be part of a global movement to improve women’s situation
The Women’s Fund for Scotland is one of 160 Women’s Funds spanning 30 countries and is one of the oldest and most experienced funds for women in the UK.
Women Moving Millions have said that “the case for investing in women and girls is clear. Ensuring their rights and increasing their opportunity is propelling powerful potential that the world desperately needs. When we join forces with women and girls and we empower them to drive change, they will lead us to a more just and equitable world for everyone.”
According to brain scans the mere thought of helping others by planning to make a donation makes people happier. Such thoughts activate the mesolimbic pathway in the brain that is associated with happiness and production of dopamine, a neurotransmitter that helps control the brain’s reward and pleasure centres.
It has also been shown that those who give report:
- An improved sense of well-being
- Lower stress levels
- Better physical health
- Enhanced emotional health
- Enriched sense of purpose in life
- Increased happiness
‘Philanthropy benefits the giver too; with ‘helper’s high’ and ‘giver’s glow’ ‘ Bruce DeBoskey
Giving via the Women’s Fund for Scotland allows you to target your giving for maximum returns and get some of the feel-good factor for yourself too.
Your philanthropic activity can teach many things;
- Younger family members can learn money skills
- Deciding together where family gifts go encourages communication, negotiation, and time spent together
- Children will learn analytical skills as they weigh up the merits of one donation over another
- It can widen our understanding of the world and children, especially, can learn about the inequalities that exist
What our donors say
“We enjoy working with the professional team at the Women’s Fund for Scotland. They help us to reach so many worthwhile projects and provide feedback on the timely and tangible benefits achieved” The Castansa Trust
“Getting the opportunity to meet with the community based groups and hear their stories makes my giving much more meaningful” Fiona MacLeod
“As a way of bringing people together to support women through grassroots groups across Scotland, the Women’s Fund is a great asset to donors like me. I’ve been able to target some of my giving in a strategic way to improve the lives of women whom I’d never have been able to reach otherwise” Judy Russell
“Legislation has prohibited discrimination against women, but it cannot by itself change social attitudes. Making the best of their lives presents challenges for women that men often never even see. The Women’s Fund for Scotland supports local, community based projects that help women tackle some of these challenges. My family are very pleased to be able to support the Women’s Fund in its excellent work.” Tom Ward
In Scotland you are never more than 50 miles away from a project supported by the Women’s Fund for Scotland – a distance that shrinks in the central belt.
