Full description
Young women (yw) engage in our activities less than males, and rarely in leadership roles. We have successfully newly appointed our first ever young people female Ambassador for the organisation. She is a successful DofE gold award achiever, overcoming physical/mental challenges (additional support needs/ mobility issues) and completed outdoor expeditions with equipment support and sheer determination. Building on this together we will inspire other yw aged 13-25 yrs through 12 x weekly training leadership girls only sessions (with asn ? trauma/anxiety/depression/ Aspergers/ADHD/Autism/physical disability/abuse survivors, led by them, supported by female development workers. We will empower/enable each yw to manage their own poor mental/physical health/wellbeing, teach peers, build confidence, develop key life skills for now /future - achieve long lasting systemic change within our networks and beyond. Focus on specific needs of yw -enabling/empowering them to achieve- be the best they can be - future role models. Yw with asn will be the leaders of tomorrow within our organisation/ across different fields. They will enable/empower other to follow their path, mentoring others ? our Ambassador aims to mentor those young women attending this training. We aim to source further funding so that women leadership and innovation is core to the Starfish Way.
