Full description
The money from The Women?s Fund for Scotland would support the running costs of our WEM programme. This programme supports women who are recovering from mental health challenges, domestic violence and substance or sexual abuse, loss and suicidal tendencies by organising wild camping trips in the Scottish Wilderness where they experience respite in nature and engage with a compassionate female lead community.
The money will support Fire & Peace Recovery to deliver 6 WEM day trips and 4 WEM overnight trips over a period of 12 months (sustained over a 3 year project plan). We will use it to cover the costs of fuel, fire-wood, outdoor equipment, food for the beneficiaries, additional support of 2 persons (cooking/serving food and supporting the smooth running of the trip) and the delivery fee for our project coordinator.
During a trip, we will collect beneficiaries in our minibus and take them to the tranquil setting of either Killearn Glen, Cardross Estate, and Inshriach Estate. Whilst on a trip, beneficiaries will receive nutritious meals as well as snacks and refreshments. During their time in nature our beneficiaries will take part in one or two of the following; bushcraft workshops, sharing exercises, meditation sessions, cold water therapies and outdoor yoga Over the course of 12 months we aim to deliver sessions. The yoga session includes lessons on breathing, movement, and meditation. Bushcraft includes traditional fire-lighting skills, traditional cooking methods, shelter set up, and wood and tree identification. The sharing sessions include active listening exercises, naming emotions tasks and the opportunity to release trauma by sharing experiences. All of our activities aim to develop our beneficiaries skill sets while building their confidence in the outdoors.
