Full description
Our Canalside Girls Greenspace Group will plan, develop and deliver small greenspace improvements for people and nature on the Union Canal in Edinburgh and nearby parks. The project aims to boost urban biodiversity, increase participation in the outdoors and improve the health and wellbeing of volunteers, event attendees and people living in the local area. The project will be delivered from April 2024 - October 2024 by a freelance worker, with support from core FCCT staff .
Our planned greenspace group for 2024 will be exclusively aimed at women and will meet weekly ? mostly outside but also indoor community spaces near the canal. The group will decide on the improvements they want to make, and this will be facilitated by the freelance project leader.
The pilot group felt community events to engage a diverse range of people were essential to help to highlight to the community the benefits of living near the canal and how they could get involved and utilise their local greenspaces so we have budgeted for 3 small community events - again this time aimed at getting girls and women outside and engaging with nature.
