The application is to support the development of a Saturday group for 15 girls aged 12-16. The group will meet for 5 hours each week. Funding will contribute to the staff costs associated with the group (£245), volunteer expenses (£48), material for group activities (£897), publicity costs (£60) and a contribution to the costs associated with preparing the girls for participation in the Youth Achievement Awards (£750). The group meets the needs of girls in the area for activities of interest and a place to go on a Saturday. It provides an alternative to the existing sports focus activities. It will offer the girls opportunities for social interaction and participation in activities which may develop future interests or hobbies. Participation in the groups supported by youth workers will promote personal development. It will be given a direction by the involvement of the girls in a programme leading to Youth Achievement Awards.
