Full description
My Art ? Supportive expressive art classes to develop a collage or personal portfolio depicting participants' journey and achievements throughout the program. Participants will learn about different art forms including painting, music, sculpture and photography, etc. and will focus on building confidence and connections with the community as well as improving self-esteem/mental well-being. The funds will be used towards a salary for a part-time Development Officer for 5 months to co-ordinate and support the women and volunteers to co-facilitate/deliver 16 x weekly expressive arts sessions for 8 women, per session, from Govan and surrounding areas, experiencing issues such as financial deprivation, isolation, depression and lack of opportunity. The project will target attendance of at least 50% of participants from refugee and asylum seeker/new scots communities who experience further barriers to opportunities such as cultural, language, trauma and separation, etc. and will provide a safe and culturally sensitive space to take part in creative activities that will allow participants to express themselves in a non-judgmental, supportive place with others who can empathise and support one another, helping to break down cultural barriers through understanding and trust, building new friendships, skills, confidence, creativity and positive mental wellbeing and greater community integration and cohesion.
