Investment theme: Building skills and confidence
Purpose:
to contribute towards a sessional worker's salary, purchasing equipment, volunteer expenses and publicity
Year of grant: 2016
Amount awarded: £2,000
Location: Rutherglen
Full description
The grant will contribute towards the costs of volunteer expenses for 5 volunteers (£2145), 10 singer sewing machines (£2990), sessional staff for 6 hours a week (£1800), publicity (£570) and sewing accessories (£415) to run a programme of sewing classes for local young women, who are mainly from the ethnic minority community. As well as practical training, there will be an element of confidence building to the programme, with the end aim being to prepare these young women for employment. Training will be cascaded to others, providing a degree of sustainability through up-skilling members and volunteers. A small consultation has been carried out, and it was apparent that there was sufficient interest for 21 spaces to be made available. Sessions would run weekly on a Friday for 30 weeks
