Full description
Kairos is looking to pilot a practical cookery project with seed funding from the Women?s Fund. They plan to host two 10-session blocks running weekly for 2-hours with a maximum of 8 women attending per session. The sessions will have a focus on historical and world foods with the overall aim of bringing women+ from different cultures together to share their heritage and recipes, for example, the classes might also include demonstrations of other cultural activities such as music, clothing, and ways of eating.
They know that for women who mainly come from minority ethnic and faith communities, covid-19 has ?had impacts beyond loss of worship ? affecting levels of isolation mental health, social interaction and support, sense of community and cultural connectedness? (Armstrong, 2021). Similar results have been found for women as a whole, ?looking at key measures of wellbeing including diet, nutrition and level of exercise, women were more likely to report that their experience of these had declined throughout the ongoing crisis? (Engender, 2020). This project aims to respond to the impact of covid-19 through the sharing of recipes, encouraging cultural and social connection, building cooking skills and offering low-cost options to make at home.
This project will support around 16 women.
