Full description
To contribute towards the cost of running the annual International Women's Day event to be held on the 5th of March 2011. The event will be focussed on health and wellbeing and will offer workshops including zumba, beauty therapy, food and fashion. The group hope that the event will celebrate the contribution that women make in the community. The South Uist Youth Development Group was set up in 2007 to meet the needs of young people aged 3-18 in South Uist, part of the Uists, which is made up of 5 islands joined by causeway, that have a population of approximately 5000 people. The project has gone from strength to strength and is now looking to focus its priorities on teenagers and youth volunteering. The committee members have been involved in previous annual women?s day activities and have put forward this bid to continue to offer this important International Women?s day event. Last year?s event was funded through UCVO, however, this group no longer exists. The organisation has set up a sub-group of partners to help deliver this event in 2011. There are partners involved from the local council, NHS Health Promotion, the Third Sector Hebrides group, Volunteer Centre and Cothrom (lifelong learning centre). The 2011 celebration would actually be two events, one specifically aimed at young women between 16 and 25 in May as well as the more traditional event on Saturday 5th March. Both would have a health and wellbeing focus, offering the opportunity to participate in a choice of workshops including Indian Cookery, line dancing, Zumba, Beauty Therapy, Gaelic singing and gardening. The grant would be used to pay for transport and childcare (£400), tutors (£975), speaker expenses (£200) and publicity & materials (£300).
